At the west end of Primorskiy Boulevard there is Grecian colonnade overlooking the harbor and providing a nice view of the bay. It was built in 1824 – 1827 during the reign of Duke Vorontsov, governor of Odessa region that time. The Grecian colonnade is located just opposite governor's palace, which is also called “Vorontsov Palace” The palace was heavily damaged in 1854 when the British and French bombarded Odessa (Crimean war). The Palace is designed in Russian classic style, facing Primorskiy Boulevard, and providing a panoramic view of the entire Odessa bay.
In 1936 this palace was remade to palace for young pioneers and after the 2nd world war it was named after Y. Gordienko. Yakov Gordienko was 16 years patriot who was Odessa partisan fighting with Nazi troops in the Second World War.
Count Mikhail Semenovich Vorontsov (1782 – 1856). The Governor-general
of New Russia and Bessarabia, commander of the Russian forces in Wellington's
allied army 1815 against Napoleon, the governor-general of the Caucasus.
In 1854 was granted the rank of Prince by king of Russia, he built famous
“Vorontsov Palace” in Crimea. Died and buried in Odessa cathedral.
