The Potemkin Steps (or Potymokin, Potemkinskaya, Potemkinskaya or simply Odessa Steps) are the most famous site of Odessa city. It is a formal entrance into Odessa from the direction of the seaport. The steps are leading from monument to Duke de Richelieu on Prymorskiy (or Primorsky) Boulevard down to the Black Sea. The Potemkin Steps were constructed in 1837 – 1841 by design of the architect Francesco Boffo. |

There are 192 granite steps, which are used a symbol of Odessa city. Count Mikhail Vorontsov, governor of Odessa, made order to build this
monument of architecture. The construction of Potemkin Steps cost nothing
for Odessa city budget because Odessa governor Mikhail Vorontsov covered
all expenses. |
