Ukraine visa


Citizens of the USA, the European Union countries, Swiss Confederation, Canada, Liechtenstein, Japan, Russian Federation and Moldova do not need visas to enter Ukraine for short term. Under ”short term visiting” is meant the period up to 90 days. Simplified procedure is for citizens of Australia and New Zealand. These visa regulations are of a great support for travel business in Ukraine.

Other Nations need visas to enter Ukraine. To obtain visa to Ukraine foreign citizens are required: passport (must have at least six months remaining validity), application form fully completed and signed, 2 passport-type colored photos, invitation letter (some Nations do not need an official letter of invitation to obtain an entry visa to Ukraine).

Visits of Ukraine are mostly trouble-free. The main incident for which people require consular assistance in Ukraine is for replacing lost passports. We recommend making photocopy of your passport and keep it apart from your passport. Anyway photocopy of your ID will be enough for Embassy of your country to give you support.

You should be aware of petty crime. It happens not so often like in Europe or US but on the safe side be careful especially in crowded areas, tourist spots and in public transport.

We extremely recommend that you obtain travel and medical insurance before traveling. You must check any exclusion, and that your insurance policy covers you for the activities you want to undertake.

Alcohol and tobacco are very cheap. Maybe it is the reason why tourists enlarge alcohol drinking and smoking activity while they are in Ukraine. Please, take care your health.

You should feature a valid international driving license for driving legally in Ukraine. There is a "0" tolerance on drink driving. Driving fines are from $35 up to $800. We recommend avoiding driving outside urban areas.

You should take particular care on public transport. If you take the overnight train you should travel accompanied and make sure you take 1st or 2nd class railway tickets and secure your compartment from the inside.

Don’t get involved with drugs. Penalties are severe (restraint of liberty up to 5 years, or imprisonment for a term of 2 to 5 years)

Homosexuality is legal and generally tolerated.
