Odessa is one of the hugest cities of the Ukraine, situated on the South of the Ukraine, on the coast of The Black Sea in a quiet ice-free harbor. Odessa is the largest trading center of the Ukraine, the major Black Sea resort of Ukraine and due to Odessa seaport, which is the biggest in Ukraine, the city of Odessa is the gate of Ukraine - almost all Ukrainian export and all import come through Odessa sea port.

The population of Odessa Ukraine is 1.030.000 (2011 statistics). During summer time the population of the city is almost 3 times increased due to multiple tourists, which are attracted by developed entertainment Odessa complex, beautiful sights, inexpensive rates and mild climate. More than 200 nationalities call the city of Odessa their home: among them Ukrainian and Russians predominate. The most spoken language of Odessa Ukraine is Russian.

The major religion of Odessa is Orthodox Christianity however there are hundred of different protestant churches and religious brotherhoods. You can also find here mosque and few cathedrals of Rome-Catholic Church.

As it was mentioned above the city of Odessa is the largest trading center of Ukraine. Nothing is manufactured in Odessa but everything is sold. In fact, all goods, which are manufactured in Ukraine, are sold in Odessa. All import of Ukraine as well Ukrainian export is coming through the seaport of Odessa. The largest and the cheapest wholesale market of Ukraine “The 7th kilometer” is located few kilometers to the West of Odessa, occupies the territory of 90 hectares and more than 15000 wholesale shops run their successful business in “7th kilometer wholesale market”.

Odessa in Ukraine is also prosperous in sea business: ship manufacturing; the only fish fleet of Ukraine is based in Odessa; Odessa Universities and academies graduates every year thousand of sea business specialists (engineers, seamen, technicians, custom officers, port specialists etc). Many of them are working for foreign countries outside of Ukraine.

And of course, Odessa is the largest, the best Ukrainian Black Sea resort. Absence of industry in Odessa area, short snow-less winters and long summers with average summer temperature of +25 Celsius (the temperature and the climate of Odessa is the most favourable for human body: it is not hot and it is not cold), multiple beautiful sights, rich history, beautiful architecture, nice beaches and clean sea water makes Odessa is the most popular travel destination of Ukraine. The other name of Odessa is “Southern Palmira” (due to its mild climate, resort zone with nice beaches, the Black Sea and of course cultural life).

Odessa Ukraine is young city. It was founded in 1794 by order of Russian Empress Catherine the Great (that time this area was the part of Russian Empire). Odessa was founded on the rests of Turkish fortress Khadzhibei, which was which was occupied by Russian Army in 1789.
