The Passage

was built in the end of the 19. century as a hotel and a shopping center. The combination of hotel and shopping center was quite common in European cities that times. Both hotel and shopping center still exist today, but both have seen more glorious times in the past

Privoz

(The word ‘Privoz’ in Russian means 'Supply Place') is an enormously sized outdoor and indoor market, which rivals those of Istanbul and Mexico City. During the days of Communism, Privoz was the only market that assured generous supply of every food type imaginable. Even though the Communist days are long over, Privoz remains a sight to see due to its massive size and array of products offered. It is fair to say, that anything can be found at Odessa's Privoz although to see it all may take hours. Privoz is located in Odessa's center, 5 min. on foot from Odessa central railway station.

Vorontsov Grecian colonnade

At the Primorskiy Boulevard's west, opposite Vorontsov palace, governor's palace. Under the order of Count Vorontsov a Grecian colonnade which overlooks the harbor was built. Vorontsov Grecian colonnade provides a fine view of the bay.

Monument to Aleksandr Pushkin

The Odessa period of Pushkin's art was a frutful one. During 13 months of his staying here (from 03.07.1823 to 01.08.1824) the great poet begun to work under "Tzigans" poem, wrote "The fountain of Bakhchisaray" and two chapters of "Eugene Onegin" novel. The monument to Alexander Pushkin, Russian poet, located just opposite the Odessa City Hall, was unveiled in 1889. A bronze bust of the great poet was modelled by the sculptor Zh. Polonskaya.

Odessa Sea Port

The 24-th of May 1794 Catherine II approved the plan and signed an order on building in Khadjibey "... the military harbour together with merchant berth ... "Since then over 200 years have passed... On the spot of the old fortress Khadjibey, now one of the largest Black Sea ports is situated - Odessa Sea Port.

Convenient geographical situation on the historicaly founded merchant ways between East and West, closeness to Bosporus and Dardanelles, all - the - year - round navigation in the port - was always attracting attention of owners of goods in the world.After crisis of 1993 - 1994 when the structure of the port was changed and joint activity companies were created instead of cargo handling terminals, the cargo handling capacity is continionsly increasing. Cargo handling technology al the time is perfectioned, the berths and equipment having been modernized, the spectrum of offered services having been enlarged.

Port is located at
Black Sea coast along North - Western part of Odessa bay ( Ukraine) on the artificially created territory of 109,5 hectares (coordinates: lat. - 46 gr. 32 min. N; long.- 30 gr. 54 min. W). Total shoreline length - 7230 m. Port’s work does not depend on season and weather. Interior port waters are defended by breakwaters. Port accepts to interior waters the ships up to 240 m in length and draught up to 11,5 m.  Port includes the Oil Harbour, container handling facility, the passenger area and 7 facilities for handling dry - cargoes. Port's capacities may be handle up to 14 mln tons of dry-cargoes and about 24 mln tons of oil products. Port's passenger terminal may receive up to 4 mln passengers per year.

Delivery and sending cargo off may be effected by railway or by trucks. Entering, leaving and shifting vessels is round - the - clock and assisted by Pilot service, whose technical facilities allow to pilot ships in poor visibility. Specialized Terminals allow to handle any kind of cargo. Large spectrum of supplementary services may be offered.
