Odessa Dolphinarium Nemo. Lanzheron (Lanzeron) Beach

Dolphinarium has existed officially in Odessa for 10 years. The first seven years it was seasonal. Dolphinarium teams came to Odessa for summer, brought maritime animals and organized performances. The dolphinarium has changed it’s location several times: firstly – on the territory of the yachting club then in a public open swimming pool. But bad conditions of animals housing in an offshore open-air cage and in a public swimming pool did not let them stay in Odessa all year round. Constant transportation of animals could not influence good on their health. Company “Nerum” paid attention to it and decided to build an all year round permanent dolphinarium. On the 4th of June 2005 the opening of the Odessa Sity Dolphinarium took place. Opening of the Odessa dolphinarium “Nemo” was an occasion not only in the framework of the South Capital city but also in the framework of the whole Ukraine.

Dophinarium is designed and built according to the international standards. Maritime mammals’ housing corresponds to all approved conventions and demands. The birth of a baby dolphin in Odessa for the first time in 10 years among all the Ukrainian dolphinariums proves the fact of the professionalism of specialists and good conditions of animals’ housing. This fact attracted the attention of Mass Media, including international media. Specialists who have a broad experience of working with maritime animals are experts of “Nerum Co LTD”, responsible for housing and breading of maritime mammals. During that time dolphinarium “Nemo” occupied one of the leading places in the list of sights of beautiful Odessa.

Activity of Odessa dolphinarium is of scientific, educational and ecological character. During the performances in dolpinarium it is told about the physiology, character of dolphins, peculiarities of their behavior, and about the necessity of care of dolphins and nature. Every year more than ten thousand disabled people, orphans, children from low-income families visit the performances in Odessa dolphinarium free of charge. The activity of dolphinarium and its staff is made special mention in numerous letters, certificates, and commendations of usual people and Odessa State council. “The center of rescuing and rehabilitation of ill, injured or beached in the Northwestern part of the Black Sea cetaceans” is opened in the dolphinarium. This project is agreed by the State Ecological Inspection of Environment protection in the Northwestern part of the Black Sea. The participants of the project are: public organization “Charity and Environment protection of Odessa region”, “Odessa dolphinarium Ltd”, “Nerum Ltd”, Odessa subsidiary of Ukrainian Biological Institute of South Seas, Quick Reaction Forces of Odessa State Council, Odessa Regional State Hospital of veterinary medicine, State enterprise “Odessa regional enterprise of tribal work”, Odessa Regional Association of veterinary specialists. The sessions of dolphin therapy are being held since 2007 in Odessa State dolphinarium. It takes place in summer and winter. This kind of therapy is successfully used when dealing with different violations of development - cerebral spastic infantile paralysis, autism, violated mental development, attention deficiency syndrome with hyperactivity, mutism etc.
