Primorsky Boulevard is full of attractions: Vorontsov Palace, Greek Colonnade, Potemkin Steps, monument to Duke de Richelieu, the funicular, monument to Pushkin, Russian poet; Odessa City hall, bronze cannon, extracted from French frigate “Tiger”, sunk by Russian troops on the Black Sea, in 1854 (so called Crimean War), archeological finds.
Primorsky Boulevard was built in the 19th century and is one of the best urban ensembles in Europe. This is one of the favorite places for walking of Odessa visitors. Nice view of the sea harbor and the seaport is from Primorskiy Boulevard.
Catherine Square is the most beautiful Square of Odessa, situated in the heart of Odessa city center: few steps from Potemkin Steps and 2 blocks from Deribasovskaya Street. In 2007 the restoration of the monument on Catherine Square to the founders of Odessa was made: Monument to Catherine the Great, Russia Empress and other founders of Odessa - de Ribas, de Volan, Zubov and Potemkin.
Catherine The Great/ (Katharina die Große, Sophie Friederike Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst-Dornburg), German, who married Russian King Peter the 3rd, assassinated her husband and started to reign Russia (1762-1796). In 1794 Catherine The Great issued order to found Odessa city and invested first money into city construction.
The monument to Catherine the Great was mounted in 1900 by the grateful residents of the city. In 1920 when communists came to power, they dismounted the monument. The restoration of the monument and new construction was carried out in 2007.
